When staying with us at Quartiers Marbella Apartments You can easily travel to Morocco for a day tour in Tangier or spend a few days visiting the country.
There are many travel agencies on Costa del Sol selling tours to Morocco, but you can also go by car, on your own. If you are going to visit Tangier for a day you can leave the car in Algeciras or Tarifa.Β
The port of Tangier Med, where you probably will arrive if you bring a car from Algeciras, is about 40 kilometres from the city centre. With the ferry from Tarifa to Tangier, the destination port is Tangier Ville, conveniently located right inside the city of Tangier.
Boats and ferries leave in both directions, approximately every hour. Tickets are sold at travel agencies and in the port facilities.Β
To travel by car, you must carry a driving license, and international insurance or a green card. You will also have to do some paperwork at the customs on both sides of the borders to import and export the vehicle. You will, of course, also need a valid passport.
From Costa del Sol to Morocco in summer
If you are planning to travel to Morocco from Costa del Sol in summer, keep in mind that there can be big delays due to a large number of Moroccans returning to their country, to spend their vacations, and then back to Europe again. That is especially problematic if you travel by car.
Booking and prices
Organized one-day excursions to Tangier from Tarifa costs around 90 euro, including boat trips, transfers, guided visits, lunch and insurance.Β Camel rides and similar are extras that you have to pay yourself.

Tips, shopping and bargaining
Leaving a tip is always mandatory in Morocco. Tips are expected in restaurants, cafes and when paying for a service. There is no pre-established tip percentage, but around 5% of the bill is a reasonable amount if you are happy with the service.
Bargaining is very widespread in Morocco. Normally, prices change depending on the person who buys, being much higher for strangers or tourists.Β
The local currency in Morocco is Dirham, but many shops in Tangier also accept payments in euro. 12 Moroccan Dirhams are equal to 1 GBP.
Credit cards are not widely accepted in Morocco, especially not on local markets, and in small shops.Β
Cash withdrawal with credit cards is expensive in Morocco as commissions and exchange rates apply. It is always better to exchange cash pounds, or euros, for Moroccan dirhams.
Using your cell phone
Only European countries are included in roaming without extra charges. Since Morocco is in Africa it might be expensive to use mobile data and even making and receiving calls.
