The typical food of Andalusia
ENJOY!
The gastronomy and the typical food of Andalusia are characterized by the great variety and quality of its local products. On the Costa del Sol you can find food from all over the world, but the traditional Andalusian recipes, like for example, fried fish and “Gazpacho” are typical in summer.
Typical food of Andalusia – Some delicious Andalusian dishes to enjoy on warm Spanish days… and evenings.
Deep fried fish – “Pescaito Frito”
Deep-fried fish is a very simple, but delicious dish. Try ordering it on beach bars, or specialized fish restaurants. The fish might be anchovies, whiting, mullet, squid, baby squid, cuttlefish, shrimp and many more. It is very typical of Andalusia, although it is also consumed a lot throughout all of Spain. The deep-fried fish is very common to find served as tapas, or portions, in bars and beach bars.
In most places on the Costa del Sol where they serve fried fish, you can order “Fritura Malagueña”, a mix of different fish. It is common that the mixed fish plate must be ordered for at least two persons at the time, just like paella. Sprinkle your deep-fried fish with fresh lemon and enjoy.
Try La Rada in Estepona, El Ranchero, Merchan or Casa Canuto in San Pedro. In Marbella you can eat great fried fish at Altamirano, Bar California, El Canuto and Los Mellizos. Cervecería La + Fría is also “typical Spanish”. They offer good quality at very affordable prices. They have establishments in Marbella, San Pedro and Puerto Banus.
Gazpacho – A refreshing cold tomato soup
Gazpacho is one of the most popular Andalusian recipes. The refreshing and creamy cold soup is eaten in all the provinces of Andalusia in the summer months. Gazpacho is made with fresh vegetables: ripe tomatoes, red or green peppers, cucumber, garlic, bread and olive oil. In summer gazpacho is common on the menu in most restaurants in the area. Vegans will love it!
Ajoblanco – White garlic
No need to panic, it’s not pure garlic. This cold soup is like a different version of gazpacho, made with almonds, bread, garlic and olive oil. The creamy soup is served with green grapes.
Salmorejo
Salmorejo, another creamy cold soup that is originally from Cordoba, is very typical in all Andalusia. It can be served alone, or as a sauce with other dishes. The ingredients are bread, tomatoes, garlic, olive oil and salt. It is served garnished with croutons, serrano ham and grated hard-boiled eggs.
Pipirrana
Pipirrana is a very appetizing dish on hot summer days. It is a salad made with tomatoes, onions, green peppers and cucumbers, all cut in very, very, small pieces. A very vegan friendly summer dish!
Flamenco style eggs
Flamenco style eggs are a typical Andalusian dish that consists of eggs, of course, served in a clay pot, with vegetables, like asparagus, green beans, artichokes, zucchini or any other that are in season. The pot is cooked in the oven and served with slices of ham or chorizo on the top. Very Yummy!
