The garden of Costa del Sol

Estepona has a nickname, The Garden of Costa del Sol. It is easy to understand why. Estepona’s historic centre is an oasis of intricate alleys full of flowers. The narrow streets and the squares are full of orange trees and in springtime, the smell of orange blossom is present everywhere.

The historic centre of Estepona

The historic centre of Estepona is one of the most beautiful old towns on the Costa del Sol with typical Andalusian style whitewashed houses decorated with pots of multicoloured geraniums. A visit to the Church of Los Remedios and to the ruins of the castle Castillo de San Luis, that was built by the Catholic Monarchs in the 15th century are mandatory.

Estepona Orchidarium

Estepona’s large orchid garden is something not to miss. It is a three-domed, 30-meter high glass building, in the city centre and it contains a large number of flowers and plants from all over the world. The orchid collection with 1,300 species is the largest in Europe. The Orchidarium is surrounded by beautiful gardens and fountains. The entrance fee is 3 euros per adult.

Giant mural paintings on Esteponas buildings

One of the most curious things about Estepona is the almost 50 huge mural paintings you can admire on the residential buildings. The project, which started in 2012, has become a worldwide reference in urban art. Strolling around Estepona, the neighbourhoods and areas that have joined a decided commitment to art and culture in its buildings offer the visitors the chance to enjoy high-quality, original artworks. Among them, the largest vertical mural painting in Spain which occupies 6 facades and an area of ​​1,000 square meters. It is known as Fishing Day.

The Archaeological Museum of Estepona

Estepona has converted its old City Hall to a Museum of Archeology. The museum exhibits unique archaeological pieces of incalculable value. Some of them has been rescued from the sea from different wrecks. The most important piece is the 5,000-year-old Venus of Estepona. The entrance to the Archaeological Museum is free.

The sea promenade

A walk on Esteponas promenade early in the morning or at sunset is a pleasure. On clear days you can see Morocco and the African coastline. The area is full of restaurants and beach bars where you can have a drink, lunch or dinner. The promenade also has giant chess boards and green areas where you can sit down and take a rest, overlooking the beach and the Mediterranean sea.

Playa La Rada

La Rada is the name of the beach in the centre of Estepona. It is very well equipped with showers, toilets, children’s playgrounds, volleyball nets, sun loungers for rent and lifeguards. Another popular beach in Estepona is  Playa del Cristo. If you want to try the most typical dish of the Costa del Sol you are in the right place, try grilled sardine skewers made in boats on the beach.

The port

Between La Rada and Cristo Beach is the fishermen’s neighbourhood of Estepona with its 21-meter lighthouse from the 19th century and the marina. In the Marina, there are many bars, cafés and luxury yachts. It is especially bustling at night. You can also take a boat trip through the port. A nice handicraft market is organized in the marina every Sunday. 

There is only a short drive from Quartiers Marbella Apartments to Estepona.
